School's out in Pothawira, Malawi
An update from our partner, Anne Maseko, in Pothawira, Malawi
Friday, July 25th was a special day for the students and teachers at Pothawira Nursery and Primary School as they celebrated the Final day of Term Three. Peter Maseko led the Celebration by sharing a Message titled ‘Choosing Life Choices’. This message was intended for the students graduating to the next class (including those who didn’t make it to the next class), the teachers, the parents and everyone else who was present for this End of Year Term Celebration.
Each one of us on this Earth has a choice to make. How we choose and the choices we make could result into either a good ending or a bad ending. In other words, one who chooses wisely end up with a good result while the person who chooses poorly will face unpleasant consequences for making unwise choice. It is important to be wise in our decisions. Peter concluded the message by encouraging the students to start making wise decisions now concerning their future. They need to have a goal in life, working hard in their studies to get to it, and trusting God to lead them to the right path.
End of year ceremony is a huge deal for the parents of these children as they get to hear the results of their children, and how well they have performed to exceed to the next class. The parent’s presence here is a great motivation for the students as it shows the great support that they have for their children to go to school and have a brighter future, and they have presents with them to give to their children who have performed well and making it to the next class.
Parents (including all the moms) were present to support their children graduating to the next class. The hall (Church) was completely full!

Showing off grades and a big prize!
Being there for this function was very significant to me because I remember being in the shoes that these students are in. Being motivated to work hard not only for the “K40” that we got from our parents for coming first in class but to also have a better future in the under-served community. School is the answer when you grow up in a less privileged society with limited access to resources. These children graduating to the next class will make a great impact in Malawi, and we are honored and blessed to be here and see how God is working in this place.
All glory goes to Him for providing education (through Pothawira Nursery and Primary School) to those who would otherwise not be able to go to school. As I watched these students graduating, it got me thinking. I couldn’t help but wonder where all these children will be in 5 to 20 years from now…my 7 siblings and I were once where they are today! Only God knows where. He has written a beautiful story for each one of these children and I pray and hope that we live to see it! It will be a Joy to hear their testimonies!
