Garden turns seeds into sustenance for family in Haiti
In Cayes, Haiti, there lives a young couple named Luckner and Claudette who are raising their two children. Living in this small, quiet village has its challenges, and their story is a testament to resilience, faith, and the transformative power of community.
Several blessings have poured into the lives of this family. Luckner, a man of few words but boundless determination, expressed his profound appreciation for the Fanmi Djanm (Strong Family) program that he and Claudette were invited to join through the local church. He recognized the divine hands that had paved their path, leading them to this moment of growth and contentment
Claudette, with her gentle spirit and steady confidence, shared her journey of transformation. “I did not value the invitation to participate in Fanmi Djanm at first. I didn’t think I could learn or do anything good.” From doubt to success, she was speechless at how completely life changing the skills taught through the program could be, especially around planting and raising a garden. What started as a simple plot of land blossomed into a source of provisions and wealth for their family. With each bucket of bell peppers harvested and sold, Claudette feels a stream of joy, knowing that their labor bore fruit in more ways than one, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:6. “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”
Their small garden, nurtured by love and dedication, has become a visible symbol of hope for others living in their community. People once skeptical now gather to witness the sensation displayed before their eyes. Luckner and Claudette’s resilience has inspired others to sow seeds of their own and reap the abundant harvest of their labor. Because Hebrew 10:36 says, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
Luckner and Claudette find a fresh sense of security and stability for their family with each bucket of bell peppers sold from their flourishing garden. They carefully allocate their earnings to meet their growing needs, ensuring every penny serves a purpose. From purchasing essential baby supplies for their youngest, to covering school fees for their eldest child, they invest in their children’s future with firm determination. In addition, Luckner and Claudette set aside a portion of their earnings as savings for any unexpected challenges. As their savings grows, so does their hopes and aspirations, fueled by the fruits of their labor and the promise of a brighter future.
Reflecting on that journey, the couple encourage their fellow Fanmi Djanm members to persevere through the challenges, knowing that the fruits of their labor will be sweeter than one could imagine. Luckner and Claudette’s story echoes through the valleys and hills of Cayes as evidence of the transformative power of faith, community, and unwavering perseverance in the face of adversity.
