Photo Update: New latrine at Biggarouse
Pastor Elysée Jean and the children at Biggarouse are praising God for progress on the construction of the new latrine at “Big House”.
“Sometimes we take for granted how something as simple as a working toilet can radically impact a child’s ability to develop healthily,” said Jake Barreth, International Orphan Care Director at The Global Orphan Project. “When complete, this will make an immediate and lasting impact on the hygiene and therefore, overall health of the children living here.”
Located in southern Haiti near the main market place in Les Cayes, the local church at Biggarouse and Pastor Elysée Jean have been caring for children since 2007. Biggarouse currently has 74 children in care and operates a school serving more than 200 students.
As the current latrine is in disrepair and in need of replacement, the Biggarouse family is thankful for God’s faithfulness to make provision for this basic need. The new latrine is expected to improve the overall health of the children and reduce the number of infections contracted through the facilities. Construction is progressing well, and the new toilet is expected to be completed in 2-3 months.
