Saving lives and giving hope to HIV-positive children and families in India
Nireekshana Clinic, our partner in Hyderabad, India, is saving lives and fostering hope within their community. Watch and listen as Jake Barreth, Director of International Ministry, takes you on a tour and explains the powerful orphan care and orphan prevention initiative of an inspiring husband and wife doctor duo:
“After coming here, doctors took care of me diligently. They brought me back to good health, otherwise I would have died.”
— Nireekshana Patient
In a city home to one of the highest concentrations of HIV-positive people in the world, Dr. Lavanya Sujai Suneeth and Dr. Sujai Kumar Suneetha serve each day with personal dedication to their patients. In addition to treating an average of 700 HIV and leprosy patients a month, they are establishing themselves as leaders in HIV and leprosy research.
At The Global Orphan Project, we see orphan prevention ministries like this as the first line of defense for an at-risk child. We’re so encouraged by the work of Nireekshana Clinic, and hope to continue strengthening this partnership.
Deepika is a young girl in the care of Bethel Gospel Church and Nireekshana Clinic. After losing both parents to HIV/AIDS, she now receives HIV treatment at the clinic, food, shelter, education and family, in the form of her new sisters and caregivers.
“This is a huge deal for us. Many of the kids we serve in India are HIV-positive or need a family because they lost their parents to HIV/Aids. Our goal in this partnership is to wrap around families with the support of an HIV clinic, with medication, and with nutrition, so that we can literally keep families together and keep parents alive.”
— Jake Barreth, Director of International Ministry
By caring for parents and children, Nireekshana Clinic now directly serves or impacts an average of 520 children a month through their health camp and 1,400 children each month through the clinic. Moving forward, they would love to be able to extend their home visit services to every single patient.
