Welcome to the Family
By GO Fellow Sarah Herrera
Latremblay is a village under the care of ever-enthusiastic Pastor Claude. A practical legend amongst his own community and many others, Claude has a passion for loving the orphan because he was one himself.
Growing up the victim of a broken family, Claude recognized when God sent champions his way. Whether it was a friend of his own color or others of many contrasting tones, Claude quickly learned the way of God’s extensive family and how he might be a vital proponent for exactly that one day.
So now here he is, a pastor and father to hundreds and always accepting more. He realizes we are all family, whether by blood, community, friendships, or otherwise, because we are first and foremost the family of God. No one is a stranger, no one is undeserving of love, and all are to be accepted and welcomed. And so when he meets others who feel the same way, he is especially excited.
It was a joy to watch Pastor Claude shake hands with a family who practiced the very thing he adores: acceptance. A recent visiting family from the states consisted of five children and two parents, and all were a hodgepodge of colors, ages, and personalities. But they were a family, indeed; they accepted each other, loved one another, and planned to continue in that way. Therefore, Pastor Claude was not only thrilled to greet and applaud his new friends, but also to know them, to encourage them, and to acknowledge that they are all in this journey of life together.
