Children helping children
By Taylor Burdiss, CarePortal intern
The CarePortal network includes churches of all sizes, ages, and demographics. The common thread that binds these churches is the longing to serve local children and families in crisis. No need is the same. No response is the same. In this light, we often hear stories of needs being met in the most unexpected ways.
1 Timothy 4:12 – Let no one despise you for your youth …
In Arizona, a small church with a youth program of eight recently reflected upon what it looks like to be a Kingdom worker and to serve the Lord in all things. In their desire to help their community, the youth decided to make crosses and sell them to their church congregation. After a few weeks, they raised$150. They were praying about what to do with the money when a CarePortal request for clothing arrived.
… but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
The youth responded to the need and, with their parents, went shopping together to pick out clothes for the child. They even participated in the delivery of the clothes and prayed with the family in need.
Children helping children: what a beautiful thing.
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” [Matthew 18:3]
CarePortal is not simply about meeting the need— it’s making churches aware and giving them a real-time opportunity to respond. These children understood the call and said, “YES!” They saw the opportunity to respond and impact those in their city. These children knew they could make a difference, so they chose to do so. In their efforts to help another, they didn’t limit money even without knowing exactly what to do with it because they trusted that the Lord would guide their generosity. May we all destine to follow the example of these children. May our response to those in need reflect the same purity of heart as these youths who responded without hesitation, for Jesus declares, “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” [Matthew 5:8]
