Brick by brick futures are being built
From Marsha Campbell
I am so fortunate to have been part of a circle of women, who through The Global Orphan Project and The Church of Uganda, helped to build a village – “The Father’s House ” – in Kabale this past year. There are 10 homes in the village with 10 children and a mama living in each. The village was built around a community church and school. The parish community has been incredible in welcoming these 100 children and their Mamas.
In November 2010, we learned that the addition of the 100 orphans has overcrowded the community school. Growing pains were acute! The need for a new school block to accommodate these children was apparent. To address this, our circle of women, reached out to our individual circles of 10 more friends to make a global difference. 100 for 100: Giving Hope for Christmas was launched. We believed that we could reach out and provide an opportunity for 100 women to make a lasting difference in the lives of 100 children in need. With the holidays approaching, we knew that many would love to forgo buying stocking stuffers and more presents and instead make a donation in honor of the special people in our lives. This would be a significant gift that would keep on giving, so we had a party to celebrate raising the roof on a school!
The great news is that 101 women participated with targeted funds to raise the roof on a new school block building to accommodate 120 children for generations to come! Not to be outdone, students from the University of Arkansas joined in with ticket proceeds from their recent Caroling of the Greeks event!
So brick by brick our new school is being built! Recently, while in Kabale, Uganda, we were able to visit the construction site and see the amazing process of making each brick! Three men work together to manually hyper-press a soil mixture into interlocking bricks: 240 or so each day, about 1,200 bricks a week!
100 women for 100 children; you made this happen. Enjoy the building and stay tuned to see the finished school (in about 2 weeks time) and the students who will proudly have an education because of your investment this past Christmas!
Brick by brick they are hard pressed to build a future and a hope for 100 dear children in Uganda. Hundreds of lives, for generations are being built brick by blessed brick!
Building with you, (Grand opening soon to come!)
