Back-to-school requests | CarePortal
Temperatures are cooling and summer is coming to a close. That can mean only one thing: it’s back-to-school season! This is an exciting time for children to start a new chapter of their education, but it can also be financially taxing for their families or caregivers. According to the National Retail Federation, back-to-school spending is the second largest shopping season of the year, holiday season being number one. The cost of school supplies and clothes for growing children quickly adds up. Understandably this time of year, school supplies are among the most requested items through CarePortal.
Over the past month, the CarePortal community has been stepping up to fulfill these requests with the hope to give at risk children the best chance for success as they start the new school year.
Thank you for choosing to support these incredible children and families. By meeting these simple, but significant needs you are directly investing in the children’s futures. Here are a few of the requests the CarePortal community responded to in the last month:
Oklahoma County, Oklahoma
Caseworker Request: “We are requesting assistance in obtaining school supplies for a high school student. This child will be a freshman this year and was recently placed in a kinship foster home. This placement is unpaid at this time and they are trying to make sure that this young man gets off to the best start possible in his high school career. His goal is to lead his team to the state championships in basketball and play for Oklahoma State University in the future on his way to the NBA. He knows that he has to keep his grades up in order to do. We are requesting 2 – 2 inch binders, 2 to 4 pkgs – ruled paper, #2 pencils, TI-30XS calculator, file folder with pockets, colored pencils, pens blue/black and red, 2 – 8 count dividers and a backpack.”
Hawaii County, Hawaii
Caseworker Request: “Single mom of three children in grades 4, 2 and Kindergarten needs help with school supplies and school clothes. A $150 gift card to Target or Wal-Mart would be extremely appreciated.”
Carroll County, Georgia
Caseworker Request: “We have two children who are in need of help to get their school supplies and backpacks. Boy, age 10 and girl, age 9. The school is Bowdon Elementary and they are in grades 4 and 5.”

Donate to help U.S. kids
When you give to support CarePortal, you enable the community to provide life-changing assistance — whether that means helping a grandmother cross off that back-to-school list, making sure a single mother can get to work, or committing to become a foster family.
All kids matter.
When you provide a child with school supplies, you’re doing so much more than giving them a backpack or tennis shoes. You’re saying, “I believe in you!” to a child who might have faced more than you’ll be able to understand. You’re saying, “You matter,” to a family whose story is complicated and brought them to a point of crisis.
Serve foster children and at-risk families in your own community.
