Faith in Jesus. Faith in jobs.
Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” is Bertrand Lozier’s life verse.
We first met Bertrand four years ago when he started as a bus driver for GO Haiti. The earthquake had hit Bertand’s family hard. Making hospital visits to see if there were newly-orphaned children in need of care, we were surprised to see Bertrand’s oldest daughter, Berlin, whose leg was broken when the Lozier home crumbled. We didn’t know. At our urging, Bertrand moved his family into Room #1 at the Jumecourt Inn.
Bertrand’s faithful work ethic and gentle spirit continued to earn our trust and respect, garnering additional responsibility along the way. Today, Bertrand manages the Jumecourt Inn, responsible for a staff of 20+. More importantly, he is a valued friend and one of Haiti’s best dads. Last month, we celebrated with Bertrand and his bride the arrival of their new daughter AND their moving into their new home.
At GO, we talk a lot about the dignity of work. We even launched The GO Exchange (www.goex.org) to help create jobs. Why? Because we know people like Bertrand. They are our friends. And, Bertrand knows that God designed us to work. He embraces his job as the tool God has provided to, well, provide. And, Bertrand provides faithfully for his wife, his five children, and three others. Ten Haitian people live together as family, supported by one income. Bertrand’s life and home has also already served as an example for older children in the Pathways program. God honors work. God changes destinies.
Bertrand has faith in God. In four plus years, Bertrand has seen God take his family from the rubble pile to a beautiful home. No power yet. No water yet, but utilities don’t make a home. Families do, and Bertrand has faith that God has more work for him to do…
