Congratulations and Promises
For Vision Trippers, the words “Bead Ceremony” bring a smile. Each evening team members exchange a plastic bead of varying color accompanied by words of affirmation, hugs, love, and sometimes tears. If your Team Leader is a softie and the wind is blowing just right, you might even get to give more than one every now and then.
Sunday night brought a new wrinkle, as Tyler Hoerner added romance to the ritual by giving GO Project Champion Emily Mattox (Emse) an engagement ring. Very well done, Tyler! Those bells you hear in your head are letting you know you’re a “Grand Prize Winner!” And from what we hear, Emily’s getting a Stand-Up guy in the deal as well.
Rumor has it that Tyler’s Bead Ceremony approach narrowly edged the next two best ideas: burying the ring in Emily’s dinner bowl of rice and beans and tying the ring to Sampson’s (Wes’ dog) collar for a canine delivery. (Gents, those are still open for claiming.)
So, as Tyler and Emily prepare to make the biggest promise of their lives to another person, the question we are wrestling with is this: now that the Vision Trip and Bead Ceremony have crossed this threshold, can we at The Global Orphan Project promise single ladies that if they GO on a vision trip, the man of their dreams will pop the question? Can we? Probably not yet, but we’re thinking about it.
Seriously, Tyler and Emse (sister Emily), we celebrate with you and look forward to welcoming another world-class couple into our growing GO Project family.
One last thing, before putting a deposit down on a church, be sure to read next week’s blog — The Jumecourt Inn, Haiti’s Ultimate Wedding Destination Experience :).
