More than a Crib
“You still felt I was worth doing it for, and that means so much to me.”
In July 2015, we shared about Patrick and Jennifer Johnson’s decision to buck the weight of societal strain and pursue a life of generosity. That decision led Patrick and Jennifer to collect a baby’s crib at the end of their neighbor’s driveway. You can read about their initial decision to collect the crib here>>
Sure enough, a CarePortal request for a crib came, and the Johnsons were able to respond to the request due to their aforementioned vision to see opportunity to help another when that crib was on the curb.
Like many of you, Patrick and Jennifer decided to assist in delivering the needed item to the family in need. Patrick shares the story of their interaction with the mother as part of this video.
Kayla, the mother in need, commented, “You still felt I was worth doing it for.” Patrick notes the heart that a generous life conveys:
“God loves you and you’re worth it. We’re going to hold open-handed, whole-life generous lives because you’re worth it and Jesus says you’re worth it. And Jesus loves you.”
Whether it’s a crib or a utility bill or school supplies or clothes or anything else, each response to a family in need is more than just an item. It’s a message that they are not forgotten. It’s a message that they are valuable. It’s a message that they are loved.
