We changed things up this year and headed outdoors for the 2016 BIG (Build-Invest-Grow) Event! At the 11-annual event, we shared stories from our partners and the children in their care, introduced you to the lives you support, and dreamed together about what the future holds. Thank you for inviting your friends and joining us for a summer picnic in the park celebrating a movement of orphan care and orphan prevention right here in Kansas City and around the world.
In Psalm 106:1, David—king, warrior, and songwriter—exhorts us to, “Give thanks to Lord, for He is good.” At GO Project, we’ve been giving for thanks in a BIG way for the way God moved this year. The heat, from the day before, broke. The rain, from just hours before, stopped, and the goodness of God filled Shawnee Mission’s Theatre in the Park in the form of good music, face-stuffing food trucks, hugs from old friends and introductions to new ones. Please don’t let anyone tell you that God doesn’t enjoy some summer fun!
As the picturesque evening progressed and many began to share stories of how caring for the orphan had changed their lives, it became clear God was pouring out His blessing on our time together… but not just for us. He wanted to do something great for the children and families GO Project touches, like Carlo in the DR, Philidene and Pierre in Haiti, and many more. (Hear their stories from this BIG Event video). As you so often do, the GO Project family responded by being a blessing!
Frankly, it could not have come at a better time. God has given us more good work to do than ever before, and we need help. To quote another songwriter, James Taylor, “When you need a helping hand, just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I’ll come running…you’ve got a friend.” From a generous matching donor, to scores of volunteers, to hundreds of you who came and brought your friends, to the thousands of you who invest in the lives of children and families in need, thank you for being such a good friend to the orphan!
Thank you for making the 2016 BIG Event truly a BIG Event!
Pressing on with Love, Respect, and Gratitude,
Your GO Project Family
