A Personal Update on Haiti: Holding Onto Faith Amid the Chaos

The past few weeks in Haiti have been some of the most challenging I can remember. Violence and instability have escalated dramatically, and while a new government has been formed following the dismissal of the prime minister, hope among the people remains fragile. Gangs continue to gain control, enforcing their own rules and creating an environment of fear and uncertainty. Just a week ago, two airplanes were struck by bullets, forcing the shutdown of the international airport and halting all flights in and out of the country. This has further isolated Haiti from the outside world, amplifying the chaos that is spreading across the nation. Closer to home, one of our partners in Fond Parisiens, located east of Port-au-Prince near the border, experienced a devastating attack. Their compound was robbed and set on fire. By the grace of God, the pastor and six others who were there managed to escape unharmed. While the future feels uncertain, I am reminded daily that God is unchanging and faithful, even in the darkest times. A miracle is desperately needed for Haiti right now, and we continue to pray fervently for one. Despite these challenges, the work of GO Haiti has not stopped. Although our office has been closed for two weeks, we remain deeply committed to staying connected with our church partners. Our staff has been in constant communication, supporting churches as they care for families and children in their communities. I have been working closely with our GO Haiti leaders to monitor the situation and help make decisions that prioritize the safety of our staff, partners, and the families we serve. Last week, our leaders hosted a pastor conference in Cayes, in the south of Haiti. Around 20 local leaders attended, and it was a powerful time of fellowship, prayer, and mutual encouragement. These pastors are truly on the front lines, working tirelessly to meet the needs of their communities despite immense personal risks. I am in awe of their resilience and steadfast faith. As I reflect on these events, I feel a mix of heartbreak and hope. The challenges are overwhelming, but I see God’s hand in the courage of our pastors, the unity of our staff, and the determination of the local church to serve those in need. I ask for your continued prayers for Haiti. Pray for safety, for peace, and for the restoration of a nation that is desperately in need of God’s intervention. Thank you for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time. With gratitude and faith, Odinès Paulimé
