The Global Orphan Project Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how The Global Orphan Project, Inc. and its division, Strong Family (collectively, “GO Project,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in connection with (1) our websites at www.goproject.org and www.strongfamily.org (collectively, the “Website” or “Sites”); and (2) our email, text, and other electronic communications with you that link to or reference this Privacy Policy.

This Policy applies to all users and donors located in the United States. By using the Sites or interacting with us, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Sites.

  • Scope: This Policy covers information collected through the Sites and our electronic communications that link to this Policy. Our Donor Privacy Policy (Section 12) also covers information collected offline from donors (for example, at events and by phone or mail). 
  1. Children’s Privacy 

The Sites are not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you are under 16, please do not use the Sites or provide any information to us. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 16, we will delete it. If you believe we may have collected such information, contact us at info@goproject.org.

  • Personal details: name, email address, phone number, and the content of your messages when you submit forms (for example, “Contact Us”) or communicate with us by email, text, or phone. We may also collect photos, videos, mailing addresses and other information submitted by you, whether in person, electronically, through the mail, or by any other means.
  • Donation details: donation amount and frequency (including recurring donations), donor contact details, and related information you provide for receipts or acknowledgments.
  • Event information: information you provide to register for or attend our events.
  • Preferences: your communication preferences and interests. 
  1. Sensitive payment information

Payment card and bank information are collected and processed by our third-party donation/payment processor, Fundraise Up in partnership with Stripe. GO Project does not store full payment card numbers. See Section 8 for more on disclosures to service providers. 

  1. Information collected automatically 

When you use the Sites, we automatically collect:

  • Device and technical data: IP address, device identifiers, operating system, browser type and settings, referring URLs, and server log information. 
  • Usage data: pages visited, links clicked, time and date of visits, time on page, and similar usage analytics. 
  • Approximate location: generalized geolocation derived from your IP address.

We collect information:

  • Directly from you (web forms, email, phone, text, postal mail, and in-person at events). 
  • Automatically from your device and browser via cookies and server logs. 
  • From service providers acting on our behalf (for example, donation details from Fundraise Up into our Salesforce records). 
  1. Cookies and Similar Technologies 

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate and improve the Sites, understand usage, and measure performance. Technologies used include:

  • Cookies and server logs (on both Sites). 
  • Embedded tools and plug-ins related to donation and media (for example, Fundraise Up donation widgets and YouTube video embeds). 
  • Analytics and measurement tools (Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement tags, and Meta analytics). 
  1. Your choices:
  • Browser settings: You can set your browser to block or delete cookies. Some Site features may not function if cookies are disabled. 
  • Google Analytics: You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). 
  • Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: Our Sites currently do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. We will make reasonable efforts to honor applicable Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law. 
  • Cookie Options. We may provide additional controls via our cookie banner/consent tool, which allows you to manage non-essential cookies.

We use information to:

  • Operate and provide the Sites and our programs and services. 
  • Respond to inquiries and provide customer/donor support. 
  • Process donations, issue tax receipts, acknowledge gifts, manage recurring donations, and steward donor relationships. 
  • Communicate with you about our mission, programs, events, opportunities to support, newsletters, and updates (via email, postal mail, or text, consistent with your preferences and applicable law). 
  • Improve, maintain, and secure the Sites (including troubleshooting, analytics, and fraud prevention). 
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms and rights. 

We do not use personal information to engage in cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising, and we do not sell personal information.

  1. Legal Disclosures and Other Uses 

We may use or disclose information:

  • To comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of GoProject, our users, donors, staff, or others.
  • To investigate and help prevent fraud, security incidents, or abuse.
  • In connection with organizational transactions or changes (for example, a merger or transfer of activities), subject to continued protection of personal information.

We share personal information only as described below:

  • Service providers (processors): We engage vendors under contracts that restrict use of personal information to our instructions and purposes, including:
  • Fundraise Up (donation platform) and Stripe (payment processor).
  • Jotform (web forms). 
  • Salesforce and Customer.io (relationship management and email platform). 
  • Analytics/measurement and site operations providers (Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement tags, Meta analytics). 
  • Hosting, security, backup, and IT support providers.
  • Internal sharing: Within GO Project, including the Strong Family division, on a need-to-know basis and subject to this Policy.
  • With your direction or consent: For example, if you ask us to share information.
  • Legal and safety: As described in Section 7.
  • Aggregated or de-identified data: We may share data that does not identify you.

We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information with third parties for their independent advertising or marketing.

  1. Your Choices and Communications Preferences

We may communicate with you by way of several methods. For each method, you have the following options for opting out or otherwise altering how we communicate with you:

  • Emails: You can unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting info@goproject.org. 
  • Text messages: To opt out of promotional texts, reply STOP. For help, reply HELP. Message and data rates may apply.
  • Postal mail: Contact info@goproject.org to opt out of postal mail. 
  • Cookies and analytics: Choices are described in Section 5.
  1. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence and subject to applicable exceptions, you may request:

  • Access: a copy of personal information we maintain about you. 
  • Correction: correction of inaccuracies in your personal information. 
  • Deletion: deletion of personal information we maintain about you.

  2. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity (for example, matching information we have on file; donors with Fundraise Up accounts may be verified via Fundraise Up email validation and one-time passcode). If we cannot verify your identity, we may be unable to fulfill the request.

  2. If we deny your request, you may appeal by emailing info@goproject.org with “Privacy Appeal” in the subject line and explaining the basis for your appeal. We will review and respond within 45 days.

  2. We do not sell personal information and do not process personal information for targeted advertising or automated profiling decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
  1. Data Security 

We use administrative, technical, and physical measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. These measures include:

  • Encryption in transit, access controls, password requirements, and automated and manual backups for systems storing electronic data 
  • Encrypted digital backup. 
  • Payment security: Sensitive payment data is collected and processed by Fundraise Up and Stripe, which implement their own security and compliance controls. GO Project does not store full payment card numbers.
  • Paper forms collected at events (for example, donor cards) are handled and stored securely and transferred into our systems; forms are retained only as long as needed and then securely destroyed.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your communications and for choosing the information you send by email or text.

GO Project is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors and safeguarding personal information you share with us.

  1. Information we collect about donors:
  • Contact information (name, address, email, phone). 
  • Giving information (donation amounts and dates, pledge status, recurring donation details). 
  • Payment information (processed by Stripe; GO Project does not store full payment card numbers).
  • Event participation and communications preferences. 
  • Any other information you voluntarily provide. 
  1.  Confidentiality and security:
  • Donor information is considered confidential and is shared internally with staff, board members, and trusted volunteers on a need-to-know basis to carry out our mission and subject to this Policy. 
  • We use industry-standard safeguards and require our service providers to protect donor information.

We use donor information to

  • Process donations and issue tax receipts/acknowledgments. 
  • Manage recurring donations and stewardship activities. 
  • Communicate about our mission, impact, programs, events, and opportunities to support.
  • Comply with legal and reporting obligations and analyze giving patterns to improve fundraising. 
  1. Donor communication preferences:

We may contact you by email, postal mail, text, or phone regarding our activities and opportunities to support. You can opt out of any channel at any time using the methods in Section 9 or by contacting us. 

  1. No selling, sharing, or exchanging for third-party fundraising or marketing:

We will not share, sell, or exchange your personal information with any other entity for its fundraising or marketing purposes. To the extent a third-party service provider processes donations, it may only use your information to perform services for GO Project.

  1.  Access and correction:

Donors may request access to, or correction of, their personal information by contacting us at info@goproject.org or 816-536-8333. Donors using Fundraise Up may also manage certain preferences via their Fundraise Up account. 

  1. Records retention:

We retain donor records as required by law (including IRS requirements) and for as long as reasonably necessary for stewardship and operational purposes. See Section 13 for general retention practices.

  1. Children’s data:

We do not knowingly solicit or accept personal information from individuals under 16 years of age.

  1. Data Retention 

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Sites; fulfill the purposes described in this Policy; manage donor and subscriber relationships; comply with legal, tax, and audit requirements; resolve disputes; and ensure security and fraud prevention. At the end of applicable retention periods, we delete, de-identify, or securely destroy information. 

  1. Data Storage and Location 

Systems we use to store and process personal information are hosted in the United States (for example, Salesforce US hosting). The Sites and our services are directed to users in the United States. If you access the Sites from outside the United States, you understand your information will be processed in the United States. 

  1. Third-Party Links and Embedded Content

The Sites may include links to third-party websites or embedded content (for example, YouTube videos). These third parties have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy with a new “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted by a notice on the Sites or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Sites after changes are posted indicates your acceptance.

Use discretion when communicating by email or text, which may not be fully secure.
