Chickens, Children, and Chests
For the last seven years, GO Project and friends have gathered at English Landing Park for our Family 5K/2 Mile Walk/Brian Boyd Kids’ Fun Run. One year we ran for chickens…money raised from the event went to provide poultry to dinner bowls of beans and rice. For fun, we chased a chicken around the course (he was fast; not many people caught him). It was kind of like the scene from Rocky II, only different.
Other years, we’ve run for various children’s needs. School fees. Water wells. Basic life care issues…all very important, but this year it was more personal.
This year, we ran with specific children on our chests. Each race bib had the picture of a child who needs family. US Orphans. I ran for Tiah (TAY-uh), a beautiful 14-year-old girl who reminded me of my own daughters. Others ran for Richard (as seen on the bib below) and Anissa, and 47 other children living in our own backyard. There are more. Hundreds more in KC and more than 100,000 in our country.
Those who ran Saturday raised thousands of dollars to help minister to these children. Thank you! More importantly, more people now know about Tiah, Richard, Anissa, and others. Who knows what God will do with these race bibs? Maybe the GO Project Family 5K will help provide family for a child in need.
