What Dave Taught Them
Decades ago, a boy was orphaned and entrenched in the U.S. foster care system. Plucked out by a caring family, he didn’t quite graduate from high school, but did get his G.E.D. Later in life, he started a business and named it after his daughter. A clean restaurant, fresh food, friendly service, a charismatic leader – the business took off, but the American icon never forgot how his childhood turned on the loving decision of his adoptive family. He started a foundation to help children in our foster care system find loving homes.
Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, passed away several years ago, but his legacy for orphaned and abandoned children lives oh, how it lives! Today, we received a call from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. They want to help rebuild a pancaked school in Gonaives, Haiti. They want to reinstitute the student lunch program. They want to keep families together. They want to provide hope and a future for orphans, so that’s what they are going to do. That’s what Dave taught them.
