What’s in a bar chart? More families being helped by the church.
All organizations like to show positive-performance trends. These upward-sloping charts sometimes indicate increasing sales or rising profits to reassure current investors and impress potential new ones. This Care Portal bar chart, however, represents something a little different: more local families being helped by local churches.
Looking at the graph, one might ask, “Will The Care Portal help 100 families in May?” Or, maybe far more important questions get asked, like “Who are these families being helped, and what were their needs?” Here are a few…
A single mother in west Texas needed funds for lice-cleaning kits for her five children, as well as sprays for the home. The mom is unemployed and currently in school in an effort to better her prospects. Her children all have lice, and per the school nurse, cannot return until the lice are gone.
In Missouri, an adoptive mother of two, young children faced eviction, needing help with bills to keep their family home.
In Kansas, a dad moving out of a rehab house needed a bed to establish a fitting residence to meet requirements to have his children visit.
A Texas grandmother with limited income recently had to step in to raise her four grandchildren. She needed beds and dresser drawers to make the logistics work.
A Kansas teenager has had a hard time hanging with the “right crowd of people.” With the help of his foster mom, he has participated in activities which have allowed him to make good friends. With summer coming, the boy wanted to attend a church camp with his new crew; however, his foster mother is having a hard time coming up with the whole payment. She is able to pay for half and asked for help with the remaining balance.
No, The Care Portal isn’t about numbers or trends or graphs. It’s about the Church meeting real needs of real people in the local community. It’s about parents and grandparents knowing they are not alone. It’s about teamwork and hope and family…and it’s only just beginning.
