The Malawi Tigers
A few years ago, a few students from the University of Missouri made a decision to invest in the lives of orphans in rural Malawi. They formed a recognized, student group, Mizzou for Malawi (M4M), and got after it, organizing runs, fashion shows, and hoop-watching parties. They tweeted, posted, and even flew to Africa to serve, support, and share.
M4M’s work to date has raised more than $50,000 for children in need, with a focus on education. Their support helped build a school educating 240 students, supply the classrooms with desks, and this fall, helped put the first uniforms on the backs of students.
Tigers fans may recognize the colors. In gratitude, Pastor Peter Maseko who leads Pothawira, wanted his students decked out in the same colors his M4M partners sport. And for any with Big 12 ties who have trouble celebrating the concept of Malawi Tigers, a student group from KU is making their own Malawi visit to Pothawira this December.
At GO, we’d love to see a friendly “border war” that ends up with more people caring for God’s kids. We’ll keep you posted….
