Sewing up a storm in Kabale
The Kabale Sewing Center is up and running and sewing uniforms! Here is the latest update from Alison Barfoot…
The Kabale Sewing Centre currently employes 9 tailors. Four are making sweaters and five are operating sewing machines. We weren’t originally planning to start with sweaters, but the team decided it was too important to neglect, so they bought one sweater machine. When they were interviewing people they told them they could only hire one, because they only had one machine, but, three others said, “We have our own machines. Can we just come with our machines and make sweaters from your place? So, they told them to come. So, that’s how we ended up with four sweater tailors. It’s cold here, and sweaters are in high demand. I think it was a good call on their part. So far they have made 252 shirts, 226 shorts, 187 sweaters, and 149 dresses. They will soon start distributing uniforms to the schools.
