Rukore: Sponsored and Developing
Last year, we introduced Rukore, a rural town in mountainous, southern Uganda. Dr. Alison Barfoot, our GO Africa Field Director, identified a pressing need there to care for orphaned and abandoned children. Our partner is The Church of Uganda Rukore, under the able leadership of Archdeacon Obed Turihohabwe, who was instrumental in bringing life to the Father’s House Kabale. Rukore became a case study to demonstrate how a GO Project children’s village is born. It began with the signing of our Covenant Agreement and moved to sharing our site plan and development budget before being “taken to market.”
Several families and groups on the here side (11 in all) gave generously to allow our partners to break ground. One children’s home is near completion. Another has begun. After months of waiting, progress is palpable. Archdeacon Obed is working with his local management committee and church leadership in the initial phases of child selection.
God willing, dozens of these children will move into safe, loving homes later this year. This will not mark the end of the journey, but rather, the beginning. We look forward to celebrating that beginning with you, and ask you to pray with us for our partners in Rukore. May God continue to be with them as they press into the adventure of caring for His children!
