Reflections from Haiti
We love hearing stories from Trip Goers about how the experience ruins them for the average. The Kullberg family of Overland Park, Kansas is no exception. “We were rewarded with an eye opening, gut wrenching, normal wrecking experience that resulted in tremendous spiritual growth,” explained Pat. With their blessing, we wanted to share what their sons had to say about the trip to Haiti…
“I learned so much about my faith in our trip to Haiti. I think that God sent me to the physical poverty of Haiti to show me the spiritual poverty of myself. The way I see it, everybody, Haitian orphan or American, we are the same. We all have a hole inside of us, and whether that’s not having parents or not getting a good enough birthday present, God is the one who fills our spiritual hold. Here in America it is very easy to forget about God working in our everyday lives, but you don’t have to forget about Him. Our family had to go to Haiti to figure it out, but you can spend your lives glorifying God without going to Haiti. You can make a difference in your own community.” – Robert (7th grade)
“This experience has helped me to further understand how much God loves us. I felt God’s presence, and truly believe that He wanted me to be there. God loves all the children in the world, including those in Haiti. They may not live in the greatest conditions in the world, but they are equally loved by our Father in Heaven.” – Sam (5th grade)
