More than a stroller | CarePortal
When you help those in your community through the CarePortal platform, sometimes you are just responding by providing a simple item, and that is enough. But there are times when that simple item makes an impact far beyond what you could have ever imagined. With a simple item you could give families the clear message that they are not forgotten. You could empower and equip parents to raise their children in the home as a family.
When Request #38165 from Canada was met, responders felt the impact of this message. The request was for a single, new mother with an 11-day-old baby and a 3-year-old who needed help with some basic supplies while she recovered from giving birth. The mother was unable to leave her house because she needed a double stroller in order to go to the store. She didn’t have any clothing or supplies for her newborn and her 3-year-old also needed some winter clothing.
The stroller brought tears to the mother’s eyes.
“It was just a stroller. We held her baby, put together her crib, filled her fridge,” said one responder. “And yet the stroller was what brought tears to her eyes. Now she could leave her house when she needed a walk. She could walk far enough to use the good daycare. She could go to school now that the daycare was good. She could visit the church these nice strangers came from. Now she wasn’t alone at home and isolated… But it was just a stroller.”
