Local Church Launches Guesthouse to Strengthen Relationships in Community
The individuals that are part of the organizations, agencies, and church partners that make up the CarePortal community know that one of the biggest barriers to mobilizing ourselves and others to care for neighbors in crisis is overcoming the “fear” that keeps us separated from each other. The “what if’s” of helping others can paralyze us from doing anything at all. Fear convinces us to stay comfortable rather than risk for the sake of others.
Fear of the “what if’s” is logical… if Jesus isn’t real.
Yet, there is the Good News to those who believe in Jesus. Jesus came and taught us that God will take care of our needs if we seek His Kingdom (Matthew 6:25-33). Jesus came and showed us that giving our time to those in crisis is paramount to being in His Kingdom (Matthew 25:31-46). Jesus let Fear kill Him and then he rose up from the dead so that we could be adopted out of Fear’s family and into God’s family (John 14:1-7).
The good news of Christ continues beyond Jesus’s time on earth because He sent His Spirit into those who believe in Him. He gathers them together and teaches them through His Word and each other and calls them to hold each other accountable as they learn to break free from Fear and trust the Father (Roman 8:15). Scripture calls a group of Christians who are living life together this way “a church.”
Wellspring Community Church in St. Joseph, MO has provided a beautiful example of how God has called those who believe in Jesus to overcome Fear and do it together. Wellspring bought a house. They call it the Guesthouse.
The Guesthouse doesn’t just represent a place for hospitality for vulnerable children and families in the community.
It’s more than that…
It’s a sledgehammer blow to the wall of Fear that keeps our money, time and houses locked up.
The folks at Wellspring will be the first to admit that they are making lots of mistakes at the Guesthouse. But, as the people that make up this church join hands and lean into the Fear, they are finding God’s Abundant Love on the other side of the wall. Jesus is becoming more real to them every day. And the community is noticing.
CarePortal was able to use funds gifted to us for housing needs to help Wellspring purchase the Guesthouse. We are so grateful to the generosity of so many that allowed this purchase to become a reality.
At CarePortal we are humbled and excited to be a support to this church family and the hundreds of other churches in the CarePortal network who are striving together to abandon Fear and step into the freedom of being in God’s Family.
Thanks for opening your doors to those in crisis in your community. May you learn to trust God through Jesus as you share your resources, time, and families with those that God puts in your path.
