Kansas City Royals advocate for kids in Dominican Republic
The Kansas City Royals are back at it!
During Royals Charities Pledge Week this past fall, a surprise donation of $10,000 was gifted to Casa Amor, our local church partners in the Dominican Republic, to fix leaking roofs in the children’s homes and dining hall. Construction started right away, and they saw the project through to the end a few weeks later — ensuring kids eat, study and sleep under new roofs that keep them safe and dry!
A dedicated partnership.
27 orphaned and abandoned children currently receive 24-hour care, food, education, health care, a home and family at Casa Amor. Jeff Diskin, the Royals’ cultural development coordinator, has made a personal commitment to invest in their lives by partnering with their caretakers and inviting others, including Royals’ Charities and the young men on the Dominican Republic farm team, to join him!
First, they generously sent their grounds crew to transform a rocky, adjacent lot into a grassy field for the kid to play. The relationship grew from there, as the Royals brought the children to their facility for pizza and ballgame. Since then, they’ve touched the kids’ lives in big and small ways, from a Santa Claus Christmas to funding for dental work, new mattress and an improved power supply. Last summer, Jeff and players from the D.R. farm team even formed and coached the Casa Amor baseball team to an undefeated 3-0 record!
We are forever grateful and encouraged by generous individuals and groups who choose to champion the most vulnerable all around the world. Thank you, Kansas City Royals, for caring about your city, its charities and the basic needs of kids around the world.
