If we build it, they will come!
Hope and hard work in Koncko, Ethiopia
The prayerful legacy of Pastor Bachore continues to fill the Koncko community with hope and zeal for building a promising future. They are resourceful and entrepreneurial. We saw the enthusiasm and joy on the faces of all the children of the Father’s House. Zewudie and Nega (part of the Father’s House Management Committee) shared with us that the children have been helping with the construction of the new school. They eagerly volunteer to help carry the boards and tools as well as maneuvering mortar filled wheel barrows around the new school site. They love to help and share in building their own future! It is very exciting to see the joy they share in contributing.
The children believe: if we build it—they will come!
Our team is told that many neighbors’ chickens strut and range around the Father’s House land. The children love to see them and run after them. Actually, while happy to welcome their neighbor’s chickens, they long to raise chickens and other animals of their own as most families often do. So what do young entrepreneurs do? They look for and collect available resources to build for a future. Ah, yes, these same children who have been volunteering in the building of their new school also have the wherewithal to collect the project’s surplus materials. They have a plan. With those surplus raw materials, they have collectively designed and built a chicken house. That is certainly something to crow about!
Koncko, Father’s House children are believers in their own future. They are dreamers, architects and builders of their family and community. They are building it—and I believe when they do—they will come!!
Join me in celebrating them! If you would like to contribute chickens to their house or supplies to their school, and/or would like to visit Ethiopia, please crow to me: [email protected]
