Helping Kids in Need: Chip Ingram’s Interview with Joe Knittig
Jesus gave us the commandment to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. In this interview with Chip Ingram, our CEO Joe Knittig shares what it truly means to live out this commandment and take action to be the hands and feet of Jesus for children and families in your community.
Every year in the United States, over 4 million children are at risk for entering the child welfare system due to family breakdown. More than 400,000 children are currently in foster care, and 100,000 of those kids are in need of a permanent family through adoption.
“The good news is that in every county across America, there is treasure trove of care stakeholders,” says Knittig. “There are Child Protective Services, schoolteachers, and social workers who interface with families who are on the verge of crisis. Around them, churches are rising up to live the Gospel in action, and community members and businesses with a heart for children are offering their support. The only problem is that they are disconnected.”
In today’s technological world, we have an app for just about everything. We can get groceries delivered right to our front door, schedule a driver to transport us to the airport, and book lodging anywhere around the world – all through the simple click of a button. If we use technology to improve our everyday life, why can’t it do the very same for vulnerable kids and families?
That’s exactly what CarePortal does. This care-sharing platform enables the needs of kids and families in crisis to be discovered, shared, and met by local community advocates. Since launching CarePortal in April 2015, over 100,000 children have been served nationwide through this cutting-edge platform.
“It’s the Church being the hero to children and families in crisis and making relational connections around real-time needs,” says Joe. “It’s Uber for child welfare.”
