Haiti Update – Newsletter
Since the hurricanes hit, the C3 Family has responded by giving more than $200,000 dedicated to the crisis in Haiti. There are additional commitments that will be funded by generous givers over the next 30-60 days.
What C3 has been able to do in Haiti in response to the crisis includes the following:
Ensure that all children in our homes (more than 1,000) in Haiti have ample food;
Feed several thousand more people in the communities where our children live with more than 50,000 lbs. of food (delivered by helicopter and trucks);
Provide water treatment product to make several million gallons of undrinkable water clean and drinkable;
Fund homes for 290 orphans left in the most brutal conditions in the hurricanes’ wake (these homes targeted for completion soon); and
Fund homes for another 210 orphans (these homes targeted for completion in mid-December).
While the media and the world’s attention has turned away from the crisis in Haiti, the crisis still exists. Turning off the cameras doesn’t turn off the desperate need. Let me put this in perspective:
C3’s focus is orphan care for orphaned and abandoned children with no meaningful care whatsoever. There are roughly 200,000 of these children in Haiti. These little ones live in any nook or cranny they can find – in their hiding places. And they try to survive there. These hurricanes washed away even the hiding places for THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of these children. The hurricanes didn’t create a wave of orphaned children; they further exposed them.
Our commitment going forward in response to this crisis is to raise as much money as possible, and use every cent of it – 100% – to bring as many of these exposed children into homes and into care. To learn more about the C3 Haiti Relief Fund – click here.
All he wanted for his birthday was to go back to Haiti
DJ Dietrich, Freshman at Park Hill High School, was anxious to get back to Haiti. He told his parents, Alan and Denise, that to go on another Haiti trip was all he wanted for his birthday. October 23, 2008 he boarded a plane at KCI with other eager travelers.
DJ wanted to go in order to see the kids he had made connections with on his first trip in June, 2008. On the summer trip he was able to see the almost completed orphanage his family had sponsored, The Denise House of Hope. This time he was able to meet the kids who live there and whose lives are changed because their family listened to the call and built a home. These children now have beds, three meals a day, a church to show them the love of Jesus, and a community that means family.
DJ loves being in Haiti to play with the kids, attend church services, and see the good things C3 is doing in this country.
He feels like being in Haiti is a good experience and humbling. He is looking forward to another trip in January, 2009. This will be the first time his mom, Denise, has been to Haiti. He can’t wait to show her around the orphanages and introduce her to all his friends!
