The First Different December
This December, each Thursday, we’ve been sharing stories of children in need and of those who have stepped in to care for them. In many ways, these stories point back to the first Christmas.
With no earthly father, Joseph needed to step into the stigma of a potentially scandalous pregnancy. Later, in Bethlehem, it was not convenient for the inn keeper to make room for the young, desperate couple stumbling into town at the last minute. The news of the Christ child was first shared with poor, rural shepherds who could not have been more removed from high society. Lastly, God invites three, wealthy seers to share their material gifts, enabling the young family to flee coming danger.
Truth is timeless. Today, our world still needs men to step into the mess of family to be dads. Making room for those in need is still inconvenient. The sacred is still found in stillness and simplicity. . . and we still have the amazing opportunity to invest in the lives of children and families in crisis.
This Christmas, we celebrate Jesus Christ! Emmanuel! In God’s sovereign grace, He invited Joseph, the inn keeper, the shepherds and the wise men into His Story to care for His child. He is still inviting — inviting us today to care for His children, like Carlo.
This Christmas season, we invite you to make this a Different December by helping meet the raw, real needs of children — like Carlo — growing up in the care of our local church partners. Your year-end gifts help pay for the unpredictable essentials that our caretakers constantly confront: spiking food prices, emergency health and safety needs, and gaps in daily care funding for kids. As always, 100% of your tax-deductible donations go to the care of children.
Merry Christmas! Emmanuel!
