Fate, Family, Future
What is the fate of a poor, HIV-positive, orphaned child living in AIDS-ravaged, rural Africa? Unfortunately, for many this is not a hypothetical. Their lives here end all too soon, but that is not “Dani’s” story.
Dani does fit the profile above. His mom and dad were both victims of the global killer they passed on to him, but that wasn’t the only legacy they left. Dani’s mom’s last wish was, “Take Dani to Maseko.” Maseko is Pastor/Physician Peter Maseko. He and his wife, Emma, are God’s appointed leaders at Pothawira.
Pothawira (Safe Haven) provides educational opportunities, medical care, and family to rural, Salima, Malawi, and more specifically to 111 orphaned and abandoned children, like Dani.
Pothawira is Dani’s family now. He has a house mama, brothers and sisters. He goes to school and church. He gets to play, and he gets ARV’s (the medicine he needs).
Still, his immune system is weak. Today, he collapsed due to alarmingly low, hemoglobin levels. His family rushed him to Salima’s hospital, where Dani got a pint of blood, is feeling better, ate dinner this evening, and is being watched over night just to be sure.
Without parents and without Pothawira, Dani would most likely have been dead long before today, but that is not Dani’s story. He is not alone. He is a son of the King.
What is Dani’s future? The King knows the details, but we know that God has given Dani a family to love him like a son and walk this road with him wherever it leads.
