Excited about Ethiopia
I’m still smiling after recent visits to our Ethiopian, Kale Hewyet (Word of Life) partner churches in Hossana and Koncko. They no longer see orphan care as a foreigners’ ministry. Rather, they view the Father’s House as their ministry, the ministry of the local church. Most importantly, this belief is lived out as they give of both of their time and resources, confirming the kids are a part of their family.
Leaving the Hossana homes, Pastor Mulugetta pulled me aside to say, “Thank you!”
“No, Pastor. Thank you,” I said. “You all are doing the work. This is your ministry.”
He replied, “Yes, but we needed you to share the vision with us.”
Partnerships built on the Word of God and the love of God endure. Kale Hewyet has it, and they are living it!
Ethiopia is a country of more than 90 million people, with many families in crisis. The government is favorable to Christianity. Concerns about child trafficking may soon limit international adoption. English is spoken. Infrastructure exists. The Kale Hewyet denomination is strong (See Sunday Service pic, right). They are owning the Father’s Houses at Hossana and Koncko. They can care for more children in need; and more importantly, they want to do so. We want to help them! GO Africa has a regional manager on the ground in Hossana who helps make us a better partner. God willing, American teams could visit the children this year, worship at the church, and explore future potential ministry sites.
As of today, we’re moving to expand the ministry in Hossana and Koncko. God may do much more. By His grace, we hope to be a continuing part of what He does. We’re excited about Ethiopia! GO, meet the children, and get excited with us.
