CarePortal Connecting the Local Church to Local Community!
We at CarePortal are big fans of The Grand Canyon State.
The active churches in Tucson, Arizona, are doing wonderful work, meeting a high percentage of the needs posted by Department of Child Safety (DCS) workers. If you’d like to see the impact of these Tucson churches, check out our impact page here>>
DCS also serves as an advocate for CarePortal. As part of their five year strategic plan, DCS has recognized the importance of engaging the faith-based community in meeting the needs of the foster care system. We are grateful for the leadership at DCS and their vision to see the church as an institution of hope for Arizona families.
Our love for Arizona continues to grow as Maricopa County – the largest county in Arizona – prepares to launch CarePortal. We’re excited to watch how local churches respond to needs in their community.
We are also seeing Arizona communities respond to the needs identified through CarePortal. One CarePortal coordinator was attempting to find a table for a family. Instead of simply looking inside the congregation for available tables, she reached out to the broader community. Here is her story.
Today, I finally connected the DCS family who needed a large table for 8 with the person who had the large table. The DCS family member drove to see the table and the person selling me the table used his truck to take the table to the DCS family’s home. What a blessing it was for me, because I don’t have a truck and the table was very heavy along with 4 chairs and 2 captain chairs. I had been talking on the phone with the gentleman for several days, while I tried to reach the DCS family. I told the gentleman about CarePortal and he was willing to help. He even discounted the table $30. Not only that, he trusted me enough to deliver the table, even before I paid him. Shortly after he had delivered the table, my husband and I showed up with the money. We were able to meet the seller and his wife. What caring people. I told them more about how CarePortal works. The seller restores old furniture and will let me know when he has any beds or dressers that we might need. God works in wonderful ways bringing people together. I am so blessed to be a part of CarePortal.
What an opportunity to be a light to the community! It’s amazing how people respond to kindness and sacrifice and generosity. It’s clear that DCS, the family, and the seller all witnessed the sacrificial love of the body of believers.
