7 ways to recognize Adoption Awareness Month, even if you’re not adopting | CarePortal

Here are seven ways you can get involved with adoption this month!

1. PRAY 

No matter the circumstances of adoption, it comes with both challenges and joys. Pray for peace, strength and understanding for families, caregivers and children as they navigate the tension.

2. GIVE

Depending on what avenue a family decides to go with, adoption can be a long, expensive process. Donate money to a family raising funds or to agencies that you have researched who come alongside birth parents in helpful ways.

3. SUPPORT

Get creative! Bring a newly adoptive family a meal, mow their lawn or offer to babysit so they can go on a date night. Your support means the world and takes a burden off their shoulders, even if only for a moment.

4. ENCOURAGE

Send a text. Give a call. Let an adoptive family know how impactful their story has been to you and others and remind them that their actions are seen and cared for by God.

5. CHECK-IN

After such a significant life event, everyone involved can use follow up care. If you have a relationship with the child, be sure to check-in. Likewise, if you have a relationship with the first family or the adoptive family, make sure to check-in and always be sure to listen with intention.

6. LEARN

Educate yourself on adoption issues families and children face. Ask questions and apply what you have learned in meaningful ways. Families will be so grateful you took the extra time and care to be able to connect and support them.

7. CONSIDER

Consider all that are impacted by adoption and what it means for them. Read and educate yourself on the perspectives of birth parents/first families and adult adoptees.
